SMS consent disclosure

BankTalker SMS opt-in

BankTalker is operated by Ryan Crosby. Buddy is BankTalker's automated financial assistant and identifies itself as BankTalker Buddy in text messages. The actual opt-in control appears only after a user creates an account and signs in. The user enters a mobile number, leaves the recurring SMS checkbox off or voluntarily checks it, and then proves ownership with a one-time verification code.

One-time verification is not recurring consent

BankTalker sends the one-time ownership code whether or not recurring SMS is selected. Message and data rates may apply. Receiving that code does not enroll the user in recurring SMS. Recurring consent is recorded only after successful verification when the optional checkbox was selected.

What users consent to

A user can opt in by selecting the unchecked optional SMS box during phone onboarding or later by re-enabling SMS in authenticated Messaging setup, where the same disclosure is shown. Messages include replies to user-initiated financial-information requests, setup messages, and optional account or budget alerts that the user enables. An optional daily morning summary may include the latest synced posted balance, safe-to-spend estimate, and expected bills; it remains off unless the user enables it.

Disclosure shown with the opt-in control

I agree to receive recurring transactional BankTalker text messages from Buddy, BankTalker's automated financial assistant, at my verified mobile number, including replies to my requests, setup messages, and optional account or budget alerts I enable. Message frequency varies based on my requests and enabled alerts. Message and data rates may apply. Reply HELP for help or STOP to opt out at any time. Consent is not a condition of purchase.

How opt-in works

  1. Create a BankTalker account, sign in, and enter a mobile number.
  2. Review the disclosure next to the unchecked optional recurring SMS checkbox.
  3. Request the one-time ownership code. Message and data rates may apply; the code does not enroll the user in recurring messages.
  4. If the optional box was selected, successful phone verification records a versioned recurring-SMS consent event.
  5. A verified user may later re-enable SMS only after reviewing the same disclosure again.
  6. Optional service alerts are enabled separately.
